As the Beijing Olympics ended on Sunday, August 24, German officials said they were pleased with the overall result of their athletes. They want to focus on core sports to get more medals in 2012.

In the final tally at the 16-day Beijing Olympics, the German squad put up a good performance, with 16 Gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze medals. Germany finished at 5th place after China, the US, Russia and Britain, one position higher than the 2004 Olympics.
