Singer, Dreamer and Storyteller: An evening with Peter Pannke From: 04 Mar, 2010To: 04 Mar, 2010 On 10th October 2009, the German musician and author Peter Pannke along with Dieter B. Kapp received the prestigious Rabindranath Tagore Culture Prize 2009 from the Indo-German Society in Stuttgart. To mark this occasion, the Goethe-Institut has invited the renowned Indologist to a festive program at the Max Mueller Bhavan. The program will include conversations about his recently published books ‘Singers Die Twice’ and ‘Dreamtalker’ as well as readings from these books. Strains from traditional Dhrupad music will conclude the evening.

In its third year, the Women’s Film Festival in Chennai is surely a highlight among the film festivals in South Asia. Besides a focus on the Indian film scene, there will be a wide variety of feature films, short films and documentaries from all around the world. Five German films will be shown during the festival and the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan has invited the director Sung-Hyung Cho to present her two films Full Metal Village and Home from Home.
Europe Laughs - Intercultural comedies from Europe From: 15 Mar, 2010To: 20 Mar, 2010 As a follow up to the well received European Film Festival in November 2009 the Goethe Institute will show more films from Europe with a focus on the funny side. Today, when people in Europe from different cultures encounter one another, their meetings do not necessarily lead to a dramatic clash of cultures. More often, in fact, the mishaps and mix-ups that result from intercultural encounters hold potential for a great deal of comic relief. Films of the so called “culture clash comedy” exist in almost every EU country, and they often reveal more about sensitivities and national idiosyncrasies of the inhabitants of a European country than many a theoretical essay addressing cultural differences.
A Tale of Golden Girls: Book Launch From: 08 Mar, 2010To: 08 Mar, 2010 Discrimination against women is not limited to a particular geographical area; rather it’s a serious global problem, appearing with different faces in different societies. The book “A tale of golden girl” talks about five exploited girls from Bangladesh who broke their cage and brought the laughter of their success by their will power and determination. Author Md. Abdul Jabber, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship holder from Bangladesh has recently been awarded by DAAD in Oldenburg for his outstanding academic performance. He will read from his book in Bangla and share his views with the audience. At Goethe-Institut his work will be introduced by Asfa Hussain. Renowned writer and women’s activist Hasna Hena will be present to share her views in this topic.
Grips Theatre From: 01 Mar, 2010To: 01 Mar, 2010 The Grips-Theatre is a well-known German play. In the 60’s a group of students in West-Germany started this theatre which then gained popularity all over the world and today it is the most popular theatre amongst the children and youth. Today, GRIPS performs for children, young people and adults. GRIPS has produced 60 new plays which have seen over 1500 productions in 40 languages.
“GRIPS has introduced a new element to the world of children's theatre that puts children themselves at the core of the action, takes the contents of the play from the world of children, and creates a powerful dialogue between the stage and the auditorium” The Goethe-Institut Pakistan continues with the GRIPS Theatre in Karachi. “Unfit Ball hai Duniya Meray Aagay” (an adaptation of a drama from GRIPS-Berlin) will be played for five days at the Goethe Institut Pakistan!
The Dimensions of the Plane: communication design in Germany From: 04 Mar, 2010To: 18 Mar, 2010 Along with the Seagull Foundation for the Arts, the Goethe Institut Kolkata is hosting an exhibition showcasing the full strength and scope of two-dimensional communication design services of Germany. Works by mentors Johannes Erler (corporate design), Mike Meiré (graphic design), Joachim Sauter (digital media design), Erik Spiekermann (typography) and Andreas Uebele (wayfinding systems) will form the core of the exhibition, titled “Dimensions of the Plane”.
"Round Silence": Jazz concert From: 19 Mar, 2010To: 19 Mar, 2010 The Goethe Institut Mumbai presents a jazz concert "Round Silence” by Wolfgang Haffner. Haffner began his career as a professional musician in the German French Jazz Ensemble, conducted by German Jazz legend Albert Mangelsdorff. From 1994 to 1995 he was the drummer in the Band of one of the greatest female singers of all times, Chaka Khan. In 2002 Haffner formed the Wolfgang Haffner Band which toured Europe. Haffner has played on about 350 Recordings, including 11 albums under his own name. He will be joined by Hubert Nuss on piano and Christian Diener on bass in this South-Asia tour under the aegis of the Goethe-Institut.

Auto Expo 2010 From: 05 Jan, 2010To: 11 Jan, 2010 Auto Expo is the Complete Automotive Show in this part of the world, organised jointly by Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Jonathan (12) is a new boy at the world famous St. Thomas boarding school in Leipzig. The other boys quickly become his friends. They find a manuscript of a play and decide to perform it, but their choirmaster forbids them. He wrote the play together with his friend Robert who, however, disappeared when his father fled to the west from the GDR. The children discover the true relationships and their Christmas celebration is a resounding success after all.
