Abundance: Documentary Films from India and Germany From: 06 Aug, 2008To: 06 Aug, 2008 The Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi together with Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT) will be screening documentary films from India and Germany at the India Habitat Centre. A Second Hand Life investigates the murky side of information technology, whereby tons of hazardous e-waste is seeping into developing countries like India. The Stomach Fillers portrays activities at the “Hamburg Table”, a private initiative that collects 60 tons of food from bakeries, supermarkets and wholesalers every month and gives it to the needy.
German Film Week From: 08 Aug, 2008To: 14 Aug, 2008 The German Embassy in India, along with german-films.de and Suchitra Film Society is presenting the “German Film Week” in Bangalore. The week long festival, 8th August to 14th August, will showcase over a dozen contemporary feature films from German filmmakers and over a half dozen children’s films during the same time. The feature films include two films of celebrated director Fatih Akin - The Edge of Heaven (2007) and Head-On (2003) - and a couple of films from Hans-Christian Schmid. The festival aims at familiarizing the Indian audience with modern German cinema with its mixture of arthouse and entertainment films. The children’s section aims to bring in young audience in contact with German films and will receive multiple screening through the week.
Sophie Scholl - the Final Days From: 28 Aug, 2008To: 28 Aug, 2008 Sophie Scholl, her brother Hans, and some other students are working for the resistance movement “The White Rose”, fighting against the National Socialist regime and the war. In a secret studio they prepare anti-Nazi leaflets which are then distributed everywhere. During one of these campaigns Sophie and her brother are caught by the Nazis and put into detention. Far from lecturing the audience about history, the film by Marc Rothemund, gives a very intimate and emotional insight into the motives and thoughts of the accused and also the interrogator.
Colonial India in Photographies of Wiele & Klein From: 09 Aug, 2008To: 20 Aug, 2008 Among the Western photographers who settled in Madras in the late 19th century, the Germans E.U.F. Wiele and Theodor Klein became remarkably successful and famous. The Baedeker guide book on India (and other South Asian regions) published in 1914, refers to "´Wiehle & Klein`, the most famous late 19th and early 20th century photographic Studio in the South of India". The exhibition, in co-operation with MadrasWeek, is the first to show such a large number and exquisit selection of photographs by Wiele & Klein. They were printed from glass plate negatives which today form the Vintage Vignette collection belonging to writer Timeri Murari and friends, kept in Chennai.

Out of his choice of 11 handpicked films the GI will present to Sri Lankan film enthusiasts as many as are made available for this non-commercial screening in Colombo.
The World as One: Photography from Germany after 1989 From: 04 Aug, 2008To: 24 Aug, 2008 'The World as One' shows a representative sample of ‘90s professional documentary photography in colour. Nineteen photographers from Germany exhibit in seventeen groups of work their independently researched creations. In conjunction with the exhibition the artist Kai-Olaf Hesse will conduct a five days workshop for photographers in Mumbai.
Renewable Energy India 2008 Expo From: 21 Aug, 2008To: 23 Aug, 2008 Renewable Energy India, to be held in New Delhi, is India’s most important exhibition dedicated to reducing energy consumption and promoting the use of renewable energy. Increasing energy demand in the Indian subcontinent and positive developments in the sector led to the first exhibition -- the 2007 Solar Tech India –- extending to all areas of renewable energy. The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) is participating at the second Renewable Energy India 2008 Expo. The German Renewable Energy Day and German Energy Efficiency Day, with specialist presentations on the renewable energy scenario, will be highlights of the German programme.
Distance and Proximity: Photo exhibition From: 14 Jul, 2008To: 31 Jul, 2008 After successful tours to Karachi (Pakistan) and Kolkata, Distance and Proximity now comes to Delhi. Distance and Proximity is an exhibition of photographs by Bernd and Hilla Becher and their former students of the art of photography at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art. Bernd Becher, from 1976 to 1996 professor at the Academy of Art in Düsseldorf, Hilla Becher and a number of their former students are the most influential photographers of our time, and major artists on the international scene.
The exhibition by the ifa (Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations) in Delhi's Vadehra Art Gallery presents 76 works, some of them extra large. The selection reflects both the artists' shared approach to the chosen motifs and their artistic position.
The Flying Eye - Retrospective Michael Ballhaus From: 04 Jul, 2008To: 13 Jul, 2008 Spotlighting Michael Ballhaus, Germany’s best-known cinematographer, Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore screens movies from his early German phase, when he worked with Rainer Werner Fassbinder. His work with Fassbinder began in 1970 and it was at this time that Ballhaus developed his unique style. Indian cinematographer Sunny Joseph opens the series with an introductory talk on Michael Ballhaus, entitled Eye to Eye - the Cinematographic Art of Michael Ballhaus.

The films are from 10 European countries such as Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Estonia, Hungary, Poland, Spain and Portugal.

On the suggestion of Wulf Herzogenrath, the Cultural Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany has attempted to rescue, preserve and disseminate the cultural heritage of video art. As this medium for preservation is of a very limited time and the media art works tend to disintegrate, the project „40 Years of Video Art” was set up as a studio edition of the overview of this art in Germany as well as the international media art scene.
We are going to show video art with English subtitles such as „Tele-knowledge“ by Herbert Schuhmacher, „The Schleyer Tape“ by Klaus vom Bruch, „About Holger Meins, Today’s Viewpoint“ by Gerd Conrad and Hartmut Jahn, „Longing for Sodom“ by Kurt Raab and Hanno Baethe.
