The International Tent Music Festival (Zelt-Musik-Festival) in Freiburg is one of Europe's oldest tent festivals. Its unique atmosphere of tent city, nature and culture and its high-calibre and varied programme have made the festival an institution in the international festival landscape. This year, the greenfield tent city will once again present a wide-ranging programme featuring numerous musical genres: pop, classical music, blues, jazz and rock.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Lower Saxony's largest open-air theatre, a series of celebratory events are being held under the patronage of German President Köhler. The events, staged against the backdrop of the Romanesque edifice in the historic Old Town centre, draw 60,000-strong crowds to the cathedral portal. Ranging from children's theatre to drama to music theatre, the programme is designed to appeal to all age groups.

This year, the Indian Film Festival is being held as part of the festivities marking the 40th anniversary of the town-twinning arrangement between Stuttgart and Mumbai. Together with the India Week's attractive supporting programme, the Film Festival presents a wide range of films offering insights into Indian culture, society and politics.

During the cultural summer festival various famous plays will be performed in this summer festival. Plays including ‘the Broken Jug’ by Heinrich von Kleist, the musical, ‘the little horror shop’ a musical by Ashman, ‘Goethes tragedy’ Götz of Berlichingen, ‘the musical Piaf’ of Pam Gems, a play by Joseph Kesselring and the childrens play ‘Snow White’ will be performed to mark the festival.

The second International Photography Festival F/Stop in Leipzig focuses on contemporary artistic photography and comes up with a clearly distinct profile compared to other European Photography Festivals. Both, the exhibitions as well as the accompanying events take place at the “Spinnerei“ (spinning mill) and along the neighbouring Karl-Heine-Straße in the Leipzig district of Plagwitz.

The festival showcases artists from Leipzig, Europe, America, Canada and Asia, with three components. The big, curated group show “Closer – vicinity and distance in contemporary photography” is closely connected to the international guest shows that result from collaborations with international artists and curators. Works of the finalists of this year’s photo contest are displayed under the topic “Fallen”.

The Munich film festival is one of Germany’s most important summer festival which showcases not only German films but films from various European countries and from around the world.

With about 200 films and 15 screens it a big public festival with more than 65 000 visitors. At the same time it also caters to about 600 film-journalists and more than 1000 specialists as a perfect meeting place for the film community.

The Blue Man group, show sensation from USA is on a six month musical tour to Stuttgart. The performance which started on 28 February is a spectacular and visually amazing experience with a combination of Comedy, art and science. The music and light effects specially developed for the concert combine to give the perfect Blue Man experience.

The Rheingau Music Festival transforms the entire region between Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Lorch into a world-class concert stage. With around 150 events and more than 120,000 visitors each year, the Rheingau Music Festival is one of Europe's leading music festivals and the largest to be financed almost entirely by private means.

Under the motto of Russian Sound, the 23rd Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival brings the great Russian music tradition in all of its facets to Germany. Classical music of the highest standards, world-class artists and the unique ambience of the most beautiful venues in Schleswig-Holstein make the SHMF the most important multi-venue festival for classical music in Europe.

153 events, six Music Festivals in the Countrysideand three Festivals of Children’s Music will transform all of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, as well as parts of Denmark and Lower Saxony, into the world’s largest concert hall for seven weeks. The SHMF will be a guest at a total of 86 venues in 47 towns, with 13 venues participating for the first time in 2008.

Besides music, the festival also has operas, ballets, theatre and readings at various locations.

A comprehensive summer exhibition at the Frieder Burda Museum in Baden-Baden presents a combination of painting with sculpture on a large scale. The show displays approximately 150 20th century art works by Degas, Miro, Picasso, Modigliani, Giacometti, Chagall, Kirchner, Beckmann and Baselitz. Also on show are works by Willem De Kooning, Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Georges Braque, Jean Dubuffet, Antoni Tapies and Max Ernst. All together more than 20 internationally renowned artists are exhibited.

This exhibition at Weimar’s Schiller Museum presents one of France’s outstanding 19th-century writers as an equally important painter of his era. On display are drawings and watercolours depicting motifs of a fantastic or grotesque nature as well as architectural scenes and landscapes inspired by the artist’s extensive travels, offering insights into an oeuvre that is - at least in Germany - largely unknown.

The longstanding interest of the Danish artist Olafur Eliasson in the connection between natural phenomena and industrial technology is reflected in his discourse with the BMW H2R racing car. In this forward-looking car, one that is powered by hydrogen, the features of extreme speed and environmental friendliness are no longer diametrically opposed to each other. The presentation of the 16th BMW Art Car, for which Eliasson replaced the outer covering of the H2R prototype with a fragile layering of ice, is to be premiered in Munich.
