  German government condemns use of force against civilians in Syria
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has condemned the Syrian government's renewed use of violence against its own civilian population in the strongest possible terms. She called unequivocally on President Bashar al-Assad to end the use of force against his own people. Following another bloody attack on protesters by the Syrian army, Germany has requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council. more

  Two Indians for 2012 Berlin Artists-in-Residence Programme
The Berlin Artists-in-Residence Programme (Berliner Kuenstlerprogramm), conducted by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), is one of the most renowned international art programmes. Each year it offers some 20 grants to international artists in the fields of visual arts, literature, music, film as well as dance/performance. For the programme in 2012, DAAD has invited Indian writer Raj Kamal Jha and artist N S Harsha. more

On 29 July, Germany-based shipping line Grona Shipping took the the delivery of two vessels manufactured by Western Marine Shipyards Ltd of Chittagong in Bangladesh. The vessels, EMSTIDE and EMSWAVE, are the third among six pairs of 5200 DWT (dead weight ton) 'Ice Class' vessels. They will soon sail in the North and Baltic Sea and are equipped to sustain extremely cold (cyrogenic) weather conditions. The ships are certified by Germanischer Lloyd, a technical supervisory organisation based in Hamburg. more
