Germanyís Auto Bild magazine launched in India

July 03, 2008

One of India’s leading media house, India Today Group, and Germany’s leading publisher, Axel Springer International, have formed a joint venture, ITAS Media, to launch the Auto Bild magazine in India.

Auto Bild is the world’s largest selling automobile magazine, with a worldwide circulation of over five million copies per month in 30 countries. Now India will have the magazine’s 33rd edition.

India Today Group holds 51 per cent stake in the joint venture partnership, and the Axel Springer holds 49 per cent. The two companies have further print and online projects in the pipeline, according to Axel Springer, which said the new joint venture was part of the company’s expansion programme in Asia.

The India Today Group began with a single magazine in 1975. Today it boasts interests in various fields. The group’s portfolio includes 21 magazines, seven radio stations, four TV channels, one newspaper, a classical music label, book publishing and India’s only book club.

Auto Bild India will have car previews, national and global news, and scoops on the auto industry. It will also carry opinions on vehicle purchase, columns and special write-ups on cutting-edge technology, new innovations in the auto market and accessories.

Established in 1946, Axel Springer is Germany’s largest newspaper and third-largest magazine publisher as well as one of the leading European media enterprises. Axel Springer creates and distributes information and entertainment through newspapers, magazines and digital media services. Its broad media portfolio encompasses successfully established multimedia brand families such as the Bild and the Welt groups.
