Master's programme in E-learning and Media Education
November 24, 2009
A new Master’s programme in E-learning and Media Education known as Elmeb21 will be offered from the summer semester 2010 at the PH Heidelberg. The practice-oriented full-time programme will take 4 semesters to complete and is designed to train students how to produce traditional audiovisual educational media, as well as how to create network-based learning environments.
Teaching and learning, the design of knowledge and the training of teaching skills are increasingly integrated in our multimedia era. Today, modern design, distribution and cooperative forms of learning are arising from the convergence of traditional education media in print, TV and radio with interactive and learning-oriented digital forms.
The Master in E-Learning and Media Education enables students to engage in media-based education and training activities, as well as projects in educational institutes, businesses and other organizations. Students will learn how to conceive, design and evaluate specific professional content. The programme is strongly oriented toward projects connecting knowledge, competence and methods of media education, research analysis and history.
“The development and use of media for education and teaching has been a focus area for years at the PH Heidelberg,” explains Nicola Würffel, the Elmeb21 programme director. The new education sciences programme at the university is designed to prepare students to design successful programmes of this kind. In addition to personalized student services, the PH Heidelberg programme will offer students access to the audiovisual media center with the latest in multimedia technologies, the largest and most modern such center at any German university.
Graduates of the Master Elmeb21 programme will most likely find employment as media officers at schools, universities and educational institutes, as E-learning teachers or designers of educational programmes. They may also monitor staff development and human resources departments in publishing houses, work as online journalists or editors, or even continue onward with doctoral studies.
Additional information about the Master’s programme, study requirements and the application process can be found at the programme website. A part-time programme is also being planned. Interested students can apply for admission through January 15, 2010.
