Science in Dialogue-fellowships for Indian Journalists

April 17, 2008

The Robert Bosch Foundation Stuttgart has called for applications from Indian science journalists to provide up to ten fellowships to participate in the EuroScience Open Forum 2008 from 18th July to 22nd July, in Barcelona, Spain.

In order to provide a platform for science journalists to get a firsthand insight into the latest developments in science, the Robert Bosch foundation has been organising the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) since 2004.

This year the Robert Bosch Foundation has invited journalists from India who report on science, health, environment or technology and on science education or policy issues to apply for fellowships for participation in ESOF 2008.

The ESOF aims at broadening the journalists’ thematic scope and to make the world of international science available to their national audience. Top scientists, science policy makers and journalists participate.

ESOF seeks to showcase European and international achievements right across the scientific spectrum and serves as an open forum for debates on science-related issues. Through ESOF, researchers and scientists, as well as the general public, are provided with an adequate platform for exchanging views and discussing the challenges and consequences of scientific developments around the world.

During ESOF 2008 the Robert Bosch Foundation will provide a mentor who has worked as science journalist in Europe for many years and who can give advice on Europe’s scientific community and media. The Robert Bosch Foundation was one of the forum’s major initiators and giving substantial financial support as well as other resources to make ESOF2008 possible.

In order to be a part of the ESOF 2008 conference the applicants must be frequent contributors to national or regional newspapers, journals or radio stations in India. The written application should include a completed application form to be submitted by 15th May 2008. The applicants also need to provide a personal statement describing their motivation to participate in ESOF 2008, a short résumé and three samples of professional work. Applicants must be fluent in English and must submit the application in English. The written samples can be submitted in any other language.

The Robert Bosch foundation was established in 1964 and is one of the major private foundations in Germany. It focuses on Science in Society, Health, International Relations, and Education. The foundation aims at fostering dialogue between society and science, with a wide range of activities including training programmes for journalists, workshop series on the relationship between science and society and research grants for science journalists.
